Entrepreneurs Make No Compromises

by Maya on January 27, 2009

When I started this blog I imagined I could churn out  a couple of posts for Geekdance every week. Boy, was I wrong! There is so much to write that I could possibly write 2 posts every day, but it seems like I will have to choose between writing the posts or actually working! SO what was I thinking?!!!

I am not just an entrepreneur, remember? I am a mom – and I am a mom first no matter which way I look at it. I love my kids and want to be there for them – live the moments with them as much as I want to live these times as an entrepreneur ….so I have to choose. And I have to prioritize and compromise. And learn to live on a little less sleep. And learn to focus. Super sharp. A razor blade.

Well, let us see. Isn’t that what entrepreneurship is all about? Living the best life. Doing everything we have ever wanted to and more. It is not that entrepreneurs do not make compromises – but they live a life so full that you’d probably never really “see” or “feel” those compromises.

So what are mine?

First of all, Memetales is a one man army. And so far, it has been going incredibly well! The time is coming soon to offload some work to others and I am getting organized for it (delegation is somewhat harder than doing te work ourselves!). So yes, so far the compromise (blessing in disguise) has been a slow progress – moving slow but giving me time to market and build a community (that I am loving!) along with mking some books offline.

Secondly, I am learning so much in this process! I am doing little things that are working so well – little decisions that I am surprising myself with and amazing revelations. And I NEED to capture these moments. For if I don;t they will be gone forever – and the beauty of this journey with all the lessons will be gone. SO this brings me to my second compromise – this blog – I will post and post often, but it will be more about my journey and my hacks rather than a link rich post (unless I have been researching an area for my work) . I guess that is okay, since anyone can write resourceful posts on entrepreneurship but only  can record my own journey …makes sense?

I am wondering about the sleep compromise though. I never do well with less sleep. My kids need me awake and very much in the moment if they need to have a good day. My work needs me very much awake and in the moment if work needs to get done. I am therefore thinking I should probably not compromise on my sleep very often – not just yet, at least.

So there – I will see you often and we will talk, but for now I need to rest my eyes and head.

Good night!!

  • hey maya .. i would advise you to have a good sleep as it is vital to performing efficiently even it means doing less...and if you feel the magnitude of work too much to handle on your own , then we guys are always there to lend a helping hand ( you talked about delegating some work) !!btw, here are some tips that might come in handy :1. try and wake early and go for a run/swim.... it keeps you energized for the whole day.2.recite a prayer/shlokas after bath , helps you to focus better ... take care..
