Geekgirl : A Life Story – My talk at Ignite Seattle

by Maya on May 11, 2009

My talk from Ignite Seattle 6 is online! I want to share that here. It is really weird to watch it – so I have not ;) . It was a great experience though – watching the other talks and participating in it myself. Highly recommended!

This is basically what I said : Geekiness is something that resides on the inside – it is an attitude. Geeks explore stereotypes, geeks have a gaming attitude to challenges and geeks do not care about conforming. That is true geek spirit and to connect with one, you have to be one. And yes, geeky pick up lines work!

Special thanks to @bryanzug, @briandorsey @gregoryheller @davidscole for working to get and put the video together. Truly appreciated!

  • Thanks for posting this! I won't be attending another conference this year, so I am enjoying all your links and resources.
  • Chanced upon your geekiness and totally loved it.

People often think I must either be a girl (or be gay) because I chose pink for my website and gravatar - well, I am neither -  "Pink is a color too!" :-)Stereotypes are easier to break when you're digging from both sides.Great talk and good luck with your company.

  • Lance - Thank you :)  so much! For watching and leaving a note :) I will try to watch it someday soon ;)
  • Maya!Loved it!!!  You rock as a "geek girl"!!  And that's way better than a nerd!  I especially relate to the whole idea of not conforming...It was great to hear your voice, and see you... (you should check it out, it's great!)
